The Isis Oasis Sanctuary is marking Quan Yin’s Birthday with an celebration that includes burning of incense, lighting candles, chanting and making offerings. We invite you to participate with us while we focus on bring forth the Mother of Compassion’s endless mercy for all beings on Her birthday!

The Birthday of Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy celebrates her attaining the state of Nirvana. Kuan Yin is a Bodhissattva, an enlightened being who hears the sufferings of the world and reaches out in compassion. Boddhisattvas are enlightened beings who live in this world, foregoing nirvana to help others and guide them to the pure land. Kuan Yin is revered by Buddhists and Taoists, and by many people across the world in many different faiths.

The birth of Kuan Yin as a nun who dedicated her life to endless compassion. In the Lotus Sutra, Kuan Yin is said to be able to assume any gender or any other form to best answer to those who call out to her in their sufferings. However, a female Bodhisattva has been the settled image of Kuan Yin in China since the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279) as people like the feminine, mother-like image to be the protector of all human beings, the one who eases suffering.

Enlightenment is liberation from the ego. In Buddhism, this journey begins with practice of loving-kindness and compassion. Kuan Yin is the Goddess of Mercy, an emanation of the Divine Mother and serves the world through her compassion and desire for all beings to be free of suffering.

Kuan Yin is a divine being, present in spirit on earth, here for us, she is a messenger of self-love and love for all of man kind. You can call on her when you want to awaken compassion, deepen self-love or love for others. She is always ready to assist. More compassion and love naturally bring more grace and ease into your everyday life.
